
A South Grafton man has been charged following a cybercrime investigation into the use of cryptocurrency to access child abuse material.
Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Cybercrime Squad, working under Strike Force Angle, executed a search warrant at a home in South Grafton about 6am on Thursday 4 September. Police seized two laptops and a mobile phone, along with MDMA, ketamine and LSD.
Forensic examination of the devices allegedly uncovered images and videos of child abuse material. A 21-year-old man was arrested at the property and taken to Grafton Police Station.
He has been charged with seven offences, including two counts of possessing child abuse material, possessing prohibited drugs, supplying a prohibited drug in more than indictable but less than commercial quantity, supplying a prohibited drug in more than or equal to commercial quantity, possessing instructions for drug manufacture, and hindering or resisting police in the execution of duty.
The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court 1 today, Friday 5 September.
Strike Force Angle is an ongoing operation by the Cybercrime Squad targeting the use of cryptocurrency to buy and distribute child abuse material online.
