Haley Hodgson took over Maclean Medical three years ago and has since transformed it into a vital part of the Clarence Valley’s health landscape. As a locally owned and operated clinic, it delivers a broad spectrum of services including general practice, chronic disease management, mental health support, women’s health, and aged care coordination. What sets it apart is a commitment to treating the whole person, with a multidisciplinary team of GPs, nurses, dermal therapists, and allied health professionals working together to provide continuity, compassion, and quality care.
Central to the clinic’s recent growth is the launch of the Access Health Clinic – a walk-in, nurse-practitioner-led facility offering same-day care without the need for a GP appointment. The clinic has significantly improved access to timely treatment for patients seeking flexibility or immediate support. Services include skin checks, iron infusions, foot care, women’s health, minor injuries and illnesses, prescriptions, and more.
By addressing gaps in availability and reducing pressure on emergency departments and local GPs, the Access Health Clinic has become a cornerstone of innovation in the region. It was this pioneering approach that earned Maclean Medical the award for Excellence in Innovation.
The clinic’s success as a small business was also recognised with the Excellence in Small Business award. Despite the challenges of operating in a rural setting, Maclean Medical has expanded its team, infrastructure, and service offerings while staying true to its values. The Highly Commended recognition in the Health, Care & Wellness category further affirms the clinic’s reputation for excellence across all levels of care.
Leadership has played a crucial role in this journey. Haley Hodgson, who was Highly Commended as an Outstanding Business Leader, brings clinical expertise and vision to her role as founder. Currently completing her transition to Nurse Practitioner, her leadership has helped create a culture of mentorship, innovation, and community-focused care.
In response to the awards, Haley shared her gratitude with the community:
“Thank you to everyone for your kind comments and encouragement. We do what we do to make our community – a beautiful part of the Clarence Valley – a better place. Why should we be disadvantaged just because we live in the country? Our extended community is what motivates us every day to do better, be better, and make a difference for our friends and families alike. It’s all of you who support and engage with us that drive us forward. These accolades are just as much your reward as they are ours.”
Being named Business of the Year is more than a title – it’s a symbol of what can be achieved when healthcare is grounded in local needs and led with heart. Maclean Medical’s success reflects a vision for rural care that is proactive, inclusive, and community driven.
Looking to the future, the team plans to continue expanding services, with construction currently underway on a brand-new medical centre due to be completed in early 2026. The new facility will host over 20 consult rooms, allowing Maclean Medical to significantly increase its capacity and provide even more comprehensive care to the Clarence Valley community. , increase capacity at the Access Health Clinic, and create new opportunities for healthcare education and training in the region. Their continued efforts promise even greater access and support for patients across the Clarence Valley.
