The Lions Club of Maclean marked an incredible milestone on Sunday, 20 July, celebrating the return of its 5 millionth container through the Return and Earn program with a special community event and free BBQ.
Locals turned out in large numbers to join the celebration, enjoying a classic sausage sizzle while recognising the impressive environmental and community impact of the initiative. Special guests Clarence Nationals MP Richie Williamson and Clarence Valley Councillor Shane Causley were in attendance, congratulating the club and thanking the community for its continued support.
The Return and Earn program has now generated over $500,000, all reinvested into the Clarence Valley community. The funds have supported a wide range of initiatives including:
- The Lions Eye Health Program
- Local school breakfast programs
- Upgrades to parks and community spaces
- And many other important local projects led by the Lions
To top off the weekend, the Lions Club was also named Outstanding Community Organisation at the Clarence Valley Business Excellence Awards held on Saturday, 19 July.
“This 5 millionth can isn’t just about recycling, it’s about community spirit,” said a Lions Club representative. “We’re so proud of what’s been achieved, and today’s turnout shows how valued this program is by the people of the Clarence Valley.”
The event was a true community celebration, with good food, great company, and a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when people come together for a common cause.
Congratulations to the Lions Club of Maclean on this incredible milestone and well-deserved recognition!
