The Harwood community is gearing up for a celebration of culture, cuisine, and conservation with a community mullet bake at Martins Point on Saturday, 19 July from 10am to 2pm.
Locals and visitors alike are invited to enjoy freshly prepared mullet while engaging in important conversations about the health of the Clarence River. The event is a joint effort by local fishers, environmental groups, and community organisations, and will support BlazeAid NSW through gold coin donations.
The day will feature guest speakers and stalls from key groups including the NSW Department of Primary Industries – Fisheries, Clarence Valley Council, Clarence River and Richmond Fishers Co-ops, and the Clarence River Guardians. Topics will range from fish stocks and water quality to sustainability efforts and community concerns.
Event organiser Graham, a local fisherman, said the cook-up is about more than food: "It’s a chance for people to connect with the river — not just through food, but through knowledge."
The event will end with a community Q&A circle, giving everyone a voice in shaping the river’s future.
