Maclean Medical is once again bringing accessible healthcare to the Lower Clarence Valley with the announcement that Maclean Radiology will open as part of the new Maclean Medical Health Precinct on River Street in early 2026.
For the first time, residents in the Lower Clarence Valley will have local access to MRI and CT, along with X-ray and Ultrasound. The service will be independently owned and operated, with bulk billing available for eligible patients, ensuring that quality healthcare remains affordable and accessible to everyone in the region.
Since the devastating 2023 fire that destroyed Clarence Valley Imaging in Maclean, the community has faced significant challenges in accessing radiology services. Only limited ultrasound and X-ray have been available through Maclean Hospital, and those needing more advanced imaging have been forced to travel to Grafton or even Lismore for essential scans. For many residents, particularly those who are elderly, living with disability, or without reliable transport, this travel has been stressful and costly.
The announcement of Maclean Radiology marks a major step forward for local healthcare, returning vital diagnostic services to the Lower Clarence. Having these services available locally will mean faster access to results, improved treatment times, and less disruption for families and carers.
Maclean Radiology will be a key feature of the new Maclean Medical Health Precinct, a purpose-built medical centre designed to bring together GP services, allied health, and diagnostic imaging in one convenient location. The precinct will also include the award-winning Access Clinic, a walk-in clinic run by nurse practitioners that provides fast and flexible healthcare options for minor illnesses and injuries. Together, these services will create a connected and collaborative hub where patients can access multiple forms of care under one roof.
The new precinct represents a modern approach to regional healthcare, designed to meet the growing needs of the Clarence Valley community. By combining general practice, allied health, and advanced imaging, the centre will reduce pressure on hospitals, improve coordination between providers, and make it easier for patients to access the care they need close to home.
The addition of MRI and CT technology is a milestone for the region. These scans play a critical role in diagnosing complex conditions affecting the brain, spine, muscles, and internal organs. Until now, residents have had to travel long distances for this level of testing. Having these services available locally will allow doctors to diagnose and treat conditions sooner, ultimately improving health outcomes for patients throughout the Lower Clarence.
Beyond the health benefits, the project will also create local employment opportunities for medical, technical, and administrative staff. The new precinct will contribute to the local economy while building a more sustainable healthcare system for future generations.
Maclean Medical’s continued investment in the Clarence Valley shows a strong commitment to community wellbeing. Built by locals for locals, the Maclean Medical Health Precinct and the new Maclean Radiology service will ensure residents have access to modern, comprehensive, and compassionate healthcare without needing to leave the Valley.
Maclean Radiology and the Maclean Medical Health Precinct are expected to open in early 2026.
